Current NewsAre Your Pennies Looking for a Good Home?Heads or (wagging) tails ... either way your pennies will help the animals!!The Canadian Government is phasing out the penny from Canada's coinage system and the transition date of February 4, 2013 has come and gone. Many businesses will no longer accept pennies - although your pennies may not be worth anything to you, they will be worth a lot to us! So please give us your two cents (or as many cents as you would like to give in pennies) and we will make sure your pennies will make a positive difference! THE 4 R'S .... REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE = REVENUE FOR WDHSCleaning out your closets and getting rid of your electronic waste - good for you and good for us!Through an agreement signed a few months ago with Green Tec, the WDHS offers a destination for your old or unwanted ELECTRONIC WASTE, eg. computers, printers, TV's, cell phones, etc. A Green Bin is located in the parking lot and a portion of resulting revenue will be directed by Green Tec to the Shelter. Please refer to the E-Waste Acceptable Electronics List. In addition to electronic waste, we are now providing a drop-off location for your unwanted CLOTHING, SHOES AND LINENS. These items will be put to good use by a local charitable group and according to the volume collected, a donation will be made to the WDHS. Both bins are ready and waiting in our parking lot for your unwanted items - please keep this in mind as a way to be environmentally friendly and help the animals at the same time!
We are looking for mature, reliable adults to volunteer weekdays/evenings/weekends at our Cat Adoption Centre. Duties include interacting with the public, promoting adoptions, cleaning and tending to our many cats and kittens. If you would like to make a positive difference in the lives of many cats and kittens and turn your spare time into many rewarding moments, the Welland & District Humane Society would love to hear from you. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the Cat Crew Volunteer Application and/or email nancythomas@cogeco.ca
